Odisha braces for increased rainfall as new weather system approaches

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 29: The intensity of rainfall in Odisha is expected to increase due to a new weather system forming over the Bay of Bengal by July 31.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Angul, and Jajpur on July 31. Other regions such as Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Khurda, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Deogarh, and Sundargarh may also experience heavy rainfall in some areas.

On August 1, the heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to persist in parts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Cuttack, and Nayagarh, with heavy showers expected in areas including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Bhadrak, and Khurda.

Rainfall intensity is anticipated to gradually decrease thereafter. On August 2, heavy rain warnings will continue for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, and Mayurbhanj, while lighter to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in North Interior Odisha and coastal districts over the next two days.

Before this, heavy rainfall may occur in isolated areas of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on July 29, and in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur on July 30.

Bhubaneswar is likely to experience a cloudy sky with occasional spells of rain or thundershowers in the next 24 hours, according to the MeT office.
