Two Odisha passengers killed in Jharkhand train derailment

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 30: Two individuals who died in the derailment of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail in Jharkhand were from Odisha. The deceased have been identified as Ajit Kumar Samal and T. Bikash Rao, both from Rourkela. Samal was a resident of the Malgodown area, while Rao lived in Railway Colony.

Ajit’s mother shared with the media that her son had traveled to Tata for work. “He called around 2 pm yesterday to inquire about his son and again at night, informing us that he would soon board a train home,” she said.

No official confirmation about the identities of the deceased has been issued by the South East Railway, which oversees the area where the accident occurred.

The train derailed near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur, at around 3:45 am. The accident resulted in injuries to 20 other passengers, who received initial treatment from the Railways’ medical team before being transferred to Chakradharpur Railway Hospital and CHC Khutpani.

Of the 18 derailed coaches, 16 were passenger coaches, one was a power car, and one was a pantry car. The exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
