Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 30: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Rama Chandra Mishra, Joint Commissioner of Excise in Bhubaneswar, on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The 59-year-old officer was found to possess assets including six multi-storey buildings, two flats in Bhubaneswar and Bargarh, 52 plots of land, and 230 grams of gold, which he could not satisfactorily account for.
During simultaneous searches, the Vigilance teams uncovered additional assets, including two plots in Sambalpur, three in Balangir, and 47 in Sonepur. The searches also revealed a duplex in Aiginia, a 2 BHK flat in Kharavela Nagar (Bhubaneswar), another 2 BHK flat in Bargarh, two triple-storey buildings in Balangir, a double-storey building in Burla (Sambalpur), and single-storey buildings in Balangir and Sonepur. Additionally, a non-operational rice mill at Tarbha and a farmhouse in Sonepur were found, along with bank deposits of Rs 22 lakh and 317 grams of silver.
The release noted that Mishra began his career as an Inspector of Excise in 2009, was promoted to Superintendent of Excise in 2018, and then to Deputy Commissioner in 2021. His most recent promotion was in January 2024, when he was appointed Joint Commissioner of Excise at the Directorate Excise, IPICOL Tower, Bhubaneswar.
