Cyclonic circulation to trigger heavy rain, thunderstorms in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over Gangetic West Bengal within the next 24 hours. This development is due to a cyclonic circulation located over South Bangladesh and adjacent Gangetic West Bengal, extending up to 4.5 km above sea level and tilting southwestwards with height.

IMD has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across various districts of Odisha until 8:30 am on Friday, August 16.

Heavy rain is anticipated in isolated areas of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning are expected in coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

On August 16, heavy rain is likely to persist in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh. The subsequent 24 hours may see continued heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.

Further, on August 18, heavy rain is expected in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, and Bargarh, with continued rainfall in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur on August 19.
