Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 20: In a recent development in the spurious liquor case in Ganjam district, Odisha, five individuals have been arrested following a joint raid by the excise department and police.
The excise department apprehended one person, while the police arrested four others. During the operation, authorities seized 55 liters of country liquor.

This raid follows a distressing incident where 17 people became seriously ill after consuming what is suspected to be badly fermented country liquor. The affected individuals, all residents of Jenapur village, reportedly fell ill after drinking the liquor in Moundpur village under the K. Nuaga police station limits in Chikiti block.

The victims have been admitted to Chikiti Medical Centre, with five in critical condition who have been transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The afflicted are experiencing severe vomiting. Although rumors suggest that the illness may be due to improperly fermented liquor, the exact cause remains under investigation.
