Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 28: On Wednesday, the Odisha Assembly was informed that new ration cards will be issued to beneficiaries who have applied over the past month, following e-KYC verification. This update came in response to Congress MLA Sofia Firdous from Barabati-Cuttack, who raised concerns about approximately ten lakh individuals waiting for their ration cards.

During the proceedings, Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj addressed the House in the absence of the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister. Suraj clarified that while completing e-KYC verification is important, it is not mandatory to finish it within a strict timeframe. He emphasized the sensitivity of the e-KYC process and urged people to complete it as soon as possible.

The government had previously announced that e-KYC audits would be conducted to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the information provided by beneficiaries. Following these audits, new ration cards will be issued to eligible applicants.
