Odisha Vigilance arrests deputy director of mines for disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, (Reporters Pen): Sept 3: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Dharanidhar Nayak, Deputy Director of Mines in Talcher, for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets amounting to approximately Rs 5 crore, which is 500% more than his declared income sources. According to the anti-graft wing of Odisha police, Nayak could not satisfactorily explain the origins of these assets.

The anti-corruption team conducted searches at eight locations across Angul, Keonjhar, and Khurda districts on Monday, uncovering assets including two multi-storey buildings, a 3-BHK flat valued at Rs 1.30 crore, a 1800 sqft duplex in Bhubaneswar, two market complexes with 19 shops, 11 plots, bank deposits of Rs 53.53 lakh, household items worth Rs 54.70 lakh, and over Rs 9.85 lakh in cash.

Additionally, Nayak had secured a loan of Rs 75 lakh in 2022, with suspicions that the repayment was made using illicit funds.

A case has been registered against Nayak and his spouse under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(b) and 12 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigations are ongoing.
