New low-pressure area to bring heavy rainfall to Odisha

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Thursday that a new low-pressure area has developed over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, near the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast. The IMD indicated that this low-pressure system, influenced by cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent Bay of Bengal, is expected to move slowly northwards over the next two days.

This weather system is anticipated to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha until September 9.

For September 5, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in several districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur. Thunderstorms with lightning may also affect Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri.

Bhubaneswar is expected to see a partly cloudy sky with occasional rain or thundershowers.

On September 6, heavy rainfall may continue in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Balangir. Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.

By September 7, the intensity of rainfall may increase in Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur. Isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning may also occur in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri. Thunderstorms with lightning are also expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
