Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 9: Following India’s first suspected case of monkeypox, Odisha’s Health Department assured the public on Monday that the state is well-prepared to manage the situation.
Dr. Bijay Mohapatra, Director of Health Services, stated, “There is no need to panic. The suspected case has been isolated and is under medical evaluation. We have heightened surveillance at international entry points, including airports and roadways, and are closely monitoring passengers.”
Dr. Mohapatra also mentioned that the central authorities have confirmed that this is the only case in the country. The patient will remain in isolation for the duration of the incubation period.
Typically, the incubation period for monkeypox is 7 to 10 days after exposure but can range from 3 to 21 days. During this period, individuals are not contagious and may not show symptoms.
Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headaches, muscle pain, and painful boils. The infection can cause a rash that may appear as bumps, blisters, or red spots on the body, according to medical experts.
