Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 9: Days after her suspension from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Suniti Mund has alleged that she faced harassment and threats from an individual over the past few months. Mund, who was the BJP nominee for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayoral election in 2022, claimed that Sudhanshu Nayak from Bhandaripokhari demanded Rs 20 lakh from her more than two months ago.

Mund alleged that Nayak threatened to ruin her political career and defame her if she did not pay the money. She believes this threat is linked to her recent suspension from the BJP. “The man’s threats were made over two months ago, and now people can see the outcome. I have been suspended from the BJP,” Mund stated.

Describing the situation as dire, Mund highlighted the challenges faced by women in politics. She emphasized that if she can be subjected to such harassment and intimidation, the plight of other women in politics must be even more severe.

There was no immediate response from senior BJP leaders or Sudhanshu Nayak regarding Mund’s allegations.
Mund’s suspension came amid allegations of anti-party activities. Sources reveal that the decision was based on complaints from a BJP MLA candidate who lost the Bhubaneswar assembly election. The candidate alleged financial mismanagement related to social media campaign funds, which was reportedly investigated by the party. Following an internal inquiry, the BJP state unit decided to suspend Mund.
