Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 12: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has announced that a team, led by the Additional Director General (Conservation) and experts from the CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), will conduct a preliminary inspection and technical survey of the Ratna Bhandar at the Shree Jagannath Temple next week.

Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee shared this update on X, confirming that the inspection is scheduled for September 18, following the government-approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and discussions with SJTA officials and sevayats.

On August 24, the SJTA had requested the ASI Director General to undertake scanning and geophysical investigation of the Ratna Bhandar, utilizing advanced technology before beginning repairs and renovations. This request came a day after the removal of seven empty iron chests and almirahs from the Ratna Bhandar to a temporary room near the Niladri Vihar museum.

The ASI plans to perform the inspection with assistance from institutions like IIT or CBRI, ensuring no adverse effects on the 12th-century shrine. The Ratna Bhandar, which was opened for the first time in 46 years, saw its valuables transferred to a temporary strong room within the temple on July 14 and 18.
