Odisha Vigilance arrests assistant engineer for disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 12: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Prasanna Kumar Swain, an Assistant Engineer (Civil) with the Bhanjanagar Irrigation Division in Ganjam, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Swain was found to possess six multi-storey buildings, including two highly valuable properties—one worth Rs. 2.4 crore and another Rs. 2.3 crore—as well as five high-value homestead plots, bank deposits exceeding Rs. 23.94 lakh, and approximately 200 grams of gold. He was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for these assets.

The Vigilance Department stated that Swain will be forwarded to court today. Swain, a native of Bhanjanagar, Ganjam, began his career as a contractual Junior Engineer with the Lower Indra Canal division in Khariar on October 15, 2003, and served there for seven years until August 18, 2010. He had been stationed in his home district’s Irrigation Division for the past 14 years and was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2013.
