Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Odisha may continue to experience isolated very heavy rainfall over the next two days. This weather pattern is linked to the Deep Depression over Gangetic West Bengal, which is expected to weaken into a depression within the next 12 hours.
As of Monday morning, the Deep Depression was moving slowly northwestward at 3 kmph. It was centered 40 km south of Bankura (West Bengal), 90 km east-northeast of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), and 180 km east of Ranchi (Jharkhand). The system is predicted to continue moving west-northwest across Gangetic West Bengal and weaken into a depression. It will then progress west-northwest across Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh over the following 24 hours.
The IMD’s forecast indicates that Odisha may experience isolated very heavy rainfall on September 16-17, with isolated heavy rainfall expected on September 16. On Sunday, the IMD had already issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Sundargarh and Jharsuguda, and heavy rainfall alerts for parts of Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Angul districts.
The IMD also cautioned about potential waterlogging in low-lying areas, possible damage to unmetalled roads and kutcha houses, and reduced visibility leading to traffic congestion in urban areas.
