Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi (Odisha CM Majhi) described the flood situation in Balasore as severe on Wednesday and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to expedite relief and rescue operations. Following an aerial survey of the affected areas, Majhi reported that significant portions of Balasore district remain submerged due to recent heavy rainfall.

Majhi revealed that over 8,000 hectares across six blocks have been inundated, impacting 35 gram panchayats in three blocks. The district administration has evacuated approximately 2,000 residents from low-lying areas, with provisions made for cooked food and essential supplies.

Eight Fire Service teams, three ODRAF teams, and one NDRF team have been deployed to assist in the cut-off villages. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is actively working to manage the flooding caused by the swollen Subarnarekha river. The Water Resources department has been instructed to develop a permanent solution, with further action to follow based on their report.

Heavy rains from a deep depression over the past four days have worsened the flooding in Balasore, exacerbating the rise in Subarnarekha’s water levels.
