Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 19: Odisha DGP YB Khurania today directed the registration of a case against a group of individuals who allegedly assaulted Major Gurvansh Singh Gosal and his fiancée on the night of September 14. “We will identify the wrongdoers and take strict action against them,” Khurania assured.

This development follows the suspension of five police officers, including the IIC of Bharatpur police station, for gross misconduct. The suspensions came after allegations of custodial abuse and molestation of the Army officer’s fiancée. The couple had visited the police station seeking action against the hooligans but were reportedly attacked by the police instead.

Earlier, police claimed that Singh and his fiancée arrived at Bharatpur police station around 3 a.m. to file a complaint. According to their account, when the woman sub-inspector requested a written complaint, tensions escalated, leading to an altercation. The Army officer was allegedly detained in a lockup for over 10 hours, while his fiancée was arrested for creating a disturbance and allegedly assaulting a police officer.

She has since been granted bail, and the Orissa High Court is scheduled to review her petition seeking to quash the FIR against her on September 26.
