Bharatpur PS case: Seven detained in Bhubaneswar assault on Army captain and fiancée

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen) Sept 20: (Bharatpur PS case) The Crime Branch has detained seven individuals in connection with the alleged assault on an Army captain and his fiancée during a road rage incident in Bhubaneswar on September 14. According to sources, the arrests were made based on CCTV footage, and the suspects are currently being interrogated at the Chandaka police station.

This development follows a directive from Odisha’s DGP for the registration of a case related to the incident. “The original case involving the altercation and road rage, which prompted the couple to visit the Bharatpur police station, is also under investigation by the Crime Branch. We are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the suspects soon,” stated DGP Y.B. Khurania.

Captain Gurvansh Singh Gosal and his fiancée reported the incident at Bharatpur police station, which allegedly led to a series of troubling events, including custodial mistreatment of the couple, sparking nationwide outrage.

In his complaint to Additional DG of Police, CID Crime Branch, Arun Bothra, Captain Gosal recounted that 10 to 12 men in three cars intercepted their vehicle near Patharagadia. The assailants reportedly hurled abuses and made lewd remarks towards his fiancée. “They scuffled with us, assaulted me, and threatened us with severe consequences,” he wrote, noting that he had recorded the registration number of one of the vehicles involved.
