Low-pressure area forms over Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall expected in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 24: low-pressure area has developed over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Northwest Bay off the northern Andhra-south Odisha coasts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

The IMD stated, “Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the Central Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Northwest Bay off the north Andhra-south Odisha coasts.” This system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Odisha until September 26.

The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, predicting between 7 to 11 cm of rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on September 24. Thunderstorms with lightning may also occur in Nuapada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada.

The warnings for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will persist in isolated areas of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh on September 25. Additionally, the yellow warning will continue on September 26 for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur districts.
