Tragic bus accident in Balasore claims four lives, injures 30 pilgrims

Tragic bus accident: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 28: At least four pilgrims lost their lives, and 30 others sustained injuries, some critically, when a tourist bus from Uttar Pradesh overturned on National Highway 16 in the Jaleswar area of Odisha’s Balasore district early Saturday morning.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred while the bus, carrying 57 tourists from various locations in Uttar Pradesh, was en route to Puri. The vehicle skidded off the road and overturned, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a woman, while around 20 others suffered critical injuries. The seriously injured pilgrims were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Balasore for treatment.

Sources revealed that the bus had departed from Siddharth Nagar and Balarampur on September 18, visiting multiple sites before heading to Puri from Kolkata when the accident occurred.

Upon receiving news of the incident, NH patrol vans, Jaleswar police, and Fire Service personnel quickly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations. The injured were initially taken to a local hospital in Jaleswar, with over 17 subsequently transferred to the DHH as their conditions deteriorated. Further updates are expected.
