Rourkela Steel Plant:: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 28: At least five workers sustained injuries, with several in critical condition, following a significant explosion at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha on Saturday. Preliminary reports indicate that the blast occurred in the steel melting shop-1 (SMS-1) during the morning hours.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) for treatment, with some reported to be in a serious state. Among the injured, four are employees of RSP, while one is a contractual worker.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, and senior officials from RSP were unavailable for immediate comment. More information is expected to emerge as the situation develops.
It’s important to note that this incident follows a previous event on July 1, where eight workers were critically injured due to a gas leak during maintenance work at a blast furnace.
