Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 2: (ganja smuggler) In a case involving the mysterious death of an alleged ganja smuggler, Kandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra suspended two police officers and terminated the services of three home guards on Wednesday.
The suspended officers include Sub-Inspector Ajit Kumar Behera and Constable Ramchandra Nayak, while home guards Abhiram Mahanand, Jagabandhu Kanhar, and Ratnakar Nayak were dismissed.
The incident occurred on September 26, when Jyestha Bandaki, suspected of smuggling cannabis and illicit liquor, was reportedly run over by a police vehicle during a chase. His family claims that after crashing into his motorcycle, the police assaulted him instead of providing medical help, leading to his death. They further allege that the officers dumped his body in a forest and fled after seizing his belongings.
Villagers discovered Jyestha’s body the next day. A DSP-level inquiry is currently underway to investigate the incident.
