Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 17: A man identified as Bijay Pradhan from Odisha’s Ganjam district voluntarily severed his tongue after praying at the Ghatagaon Tarini temple on Tuesday. Pradhan had vowed to cut off his tongue before the Goddess if his wish was granted.
Temple attendants and priests noticed Pradhan bleeding from his mouth and promptly rushed him to the local Community Health Centre. His condition is reported to be stable.
Doctors stated that Pradhan used a concealed blade from his trousers to carry out the act.
Pradhan explained that he is a devout follower of Maa Tarini and viewed the act as a part of his religious worship.
