Odisha CM: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 7: With Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by 2026, Odisha on Monday requested the deployment of 12 companies of central forces, along with a helicopter, to enhance anti-Naxal operations. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended a critical meeting of LWE-affected states chaired by Amit Shah in New Delhi, where he conveyed the state’s urgent need for additional resources to combat Maoist activities.

In addition to the request for security forces, the Odisha government sought central assistance for various developmental projects, including road construction, improved mobile connectivity, and enhanced banking services in remote regions of the state.

Following the meeting, the Centre assured that necessary infrastructure support would be provided, particularly in the ten districts of Odisha that are grappling with left-wing extremism, especially those bordering Chhattisgarh. CM Majhi highlighted the importance of strengthening security along these borders to prevent the influx of rebels from neighboring states, who may seek to establish temporary bases in Odisha.
