Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 30: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced on Tuesday that financial assistance of ₹6 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of two labourers from Odisha who tragically lost their lives in a tunnel collapse incident at the Patna Metro construction site on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Manoj Behera from Gochabadi village in Nayagarh district and Bijay Behera from Kadua village.
The Chief Minister expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
At the time of the accident, seven workers from Odisha were present at the construction site. The two fatalities occurred due to the failure of the brakes on a loco pickup near the exit of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Ashok Rajpath. Additionally, another labourer from Odisha sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
Labour Minister Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia stated that District Labour Officer Satyanarayan Acharya has been instructed to visit the accident site and take necessary actions to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies to Odisha. He also confirmed that the labourers’ families would receive compensation of ₹6 lakh, provided they hold valid labour cards.
