Odisha News:Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the state government’s commitment to delivering justice at the doorstep of the people during an event on the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s goal to make police services more accessible and efficient, ensuring that citizens receive assistance at their homes.
Majhi clarified that no police station can refuse to register an FIR (First Information Report), and victims do not always need to visit the station in person. He introduced the concept of ‘Zero FIR,’ where police are required to file an FIR regardless of jurisdiction, which will then be forwarded to the appropriate station for further action.
Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that police personnel cannot summon handicapped individuals, minors under 15, or senior citizens above 60 to the station, except in exceptional circumstances. He also stressed that POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases should be resolved within 60 days.
Criticizing the previous government over the low conviction rate in cases involving crimes against women and children, Majhi pointed to a concerning 9.3% conviction rate in Odisha as per the NCRB report, the lowest among Indian states. The CM assured that the BJP government would establish special courts and work to increase the conviction rate through faster justice delivery.
