Bharatpur case: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 20: The Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash Commission is expected to submit its findings by mid-January regarding the alleged misbehaviour and assault on a serving Army officer and his fiancée inside the Bharatpur police station in Odisha’s capital. On Wednesday, Justice Dash visited the police station to recreate the crime scene with the Army captain and his fiancée. Speaking to reporters, he stated that the incident’s details have largely been established.

“The spot visit was conducted to assess the affidavits filed by both parties and to cross-check the witness statements,” Justice Dash explained. He added that the locations identified by the victims were marked, and a detailed map was created based on their descriptions. Police officers were also asked to provide insights on the alleged misconduct.

Justice Dash clarified that the spot visit was not aimed at collecting evidence, as two months had passed since the incident. He also mentioned that 525 affidavits had been reviewed, with relevant ones sent to both parties for responses, due by the next hearing on November 26. The cross-examination of witnesses is expected to begin shortly after, followed by the commission’s report, which will include recommendations for improving police conduct and systemic reforms. The final report is anticipated to be submitted by January 15-20.
