Odisha News: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the formation of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean, off the Sumatra coast and the South Andaman Sea, at 8:30 AM on Thursday. This system is expected to develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23, with a likelihood of intensifying into a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal in the following two days.

The IMD’s Tropical Weather Outlook highlighted differing projections among meteorological models. While the GFS models predict significant intensification, the ECMWF suggests the system may strengthen to a depression or deep depression, and the NCUM indicates it may remain a low-pressure system. Most models, however, agree that the system will weaken before making landfall, likely affecting the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coast.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast for South Tamil Nadu on November 21 and 26, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 26 and 27. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Nicobar Islands (November 21-24), Kerala and Mahe (November 21, 26, 27), and Rayalaseema (November 26-27). IMD continues to monitor the system closely for further developments.
