low pressure: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 7: A low-pressure area has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday. This system is expected to move west-northwestward and strengthen over the next 24 hours. The IMD indicated that it will continue its trajectory and likely reach the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the coasts of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, around December 11.
While the low-pressure system is not expected to have a direct impact on Odisha, it may bring moisture incursion, resulting in light rain in some areas of the state on December 8 and 9.
On December 7, shallow to moderate fog is anticipated in parts of Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Keonjhar districts due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.
Forecasts also predict light rain in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, and Boudh on December 8, followed by Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Cuttack, and Khurda on December 9. Dry weather is expected to return afterward, with no significant changes in night temperatures over the next 4-5 days.
