elephant attack: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 11: In a tragic incident on Wednesday morning, a woman was killed in an elephant attack in Patakmunda village, located within the Chhendipada forest range of Odisha’s Angul district. The victim has been identified as Mandiri Sahu, the wife of Tankadhar Sahu.
According to reports, the incident occurred as Mandiri was traveling to her agricultural field on a two-wheeler. As she rode along, she noticed an elephant charging towards her. In her panic, she lost control of her motorbike and fell, subsequently being trampled by the elephant.
Despite the immediate response from locals who rushed Mandiri to a nearby health center, medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival.
In the wake of this tragedy, local villagers have staged protests, demanding adequate compensation for Mandiri’s family and expressing their fears over the increasing frequency of such incidents in the region. In a related case on the same day, another woman was killed by an elephant while cycling to the Brindaban Sahu Hat in the Kanihan forest area, highlighting the urgent need for measures to address human-elephant conflict in Odisha.
