Odisha Politics: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 12: The Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to elect a new president in January 2025, as announced by state in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar on Thursday. Speaking to the media, Tomar detailed that the election for the state BJP chief will take place after the completion of polls at the district level.
He mentioned that organizational elections have already commenced, with booth committees established and mandal elections currently in progress. The district-level elections will follow, culminating in the presidential election during the first week of January.
Tomar emphasized that the BJP operates as a democratic party, stating, “The president will be elected through democratic means. A normal worker can become president.”
Currently, Manmohan Samal serves as the president of the Odisha BJP. He has been credited with the party’s remarkable performance in recent elections, which resulted in the formation of the BJP’s first government in the state. In a significant electoral leap, the BJP secured 78 out of 147 assembly seats, ending Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year tenure as Chief Minister, while also winning an unprecedented 20 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha.
