Eight workers assaulted: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 12: In a shocking incident in Sundargarh district, Odisha, eight workers from West Bengal were reportedly stripped, beaten, and paraded with their hands tied after one of them was accused of misbehaving with a local woman. The incident occurred at Mission Road within the Sundargarh town police jurisdiction.
According to sources, the situation escalated when the woman claimed that a worker had forcefully entered her home and acted inappropriately. In response to her accusations, enraged locals and community members apprehended the alleged offender along with seven other workers. They were then paraded naked through the streets, with their hands bound by ropes. The local crowd also physically assaulted the eight men, further exacerbating the situation.
Upon receiving reports of the unrest, a police team was dispatched to the location in an attempt to control the situation. However, officers faced hostility from the locals, with allegations of police personnel being attacked during their intervention.
Additionally, a journalist covering the incident was reportedly threatened by the individuals involved in the violence. This disturbing episode highlights the tensions within the community and raises serious concerns about mob justice and the safety of migrant workers.
