Pregnant woman killed during robbery attempt in Sundargarh

Pregnant woman killed: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 12: In a tragic incident on Wednesday night in the Jhirdapali area of Bonai, Odisha’s Sundargarh district, a seven-month pregnant woman named Simamayee Behera was shot dead during a robbery attempt. The shocking crime occurred under the jurisdiction of Tikayatpali police.

According to reports, the assailants, two unidentified men, knocked on Simamayee’s door shortly after midnight. When she opened the door, they forcefully entered her home and snatched her gold chain. Upon realizing the robbery, Simamayee screamed for help. In response, one of the attackers brandished a firearm and shot her in the chest before fleeing the scene. Her husband, who was in the house, rushed to her aid as the intruders escaped.

Family members quickly transported Simamayee to Bonai Hospital around 1:30 AM, but unfortunately, medical personnel declared her dead on arrival. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers posed by increasing criminal activities. Local police have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and bring them to justice, while the community mourns the loss of a young woman and her unborn child.
