odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 17: The body of retired Professor Baishnab Charan Singh, 79, was recovered from the Jobra Barrage on the Mahanadi River in Cuttack on Tuesday. Police sources confirmed that Professor Singh was a former faculty member of Ravenshaw College, now Ravenshaw University, and had been residing in the Patia locality of Bhubaneswar.

His family reported him missing, filing a complaint at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station on Monday. According to their statement, Singh left Patia for Cuttack on a ‘Mo Bus’ around 7:45 a.m. that morning. CCTV footage showed him disembarking at the Sikharpur bus stop in Cuttack, but he did not have a mobile phone, making it difficult for his family to locate him.

A missing person report was circulated in the media, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Chandrasekharpur Police or provided phone numbers.

On Tuesday morning, locals spotted a body floating in the Mahanadi near Jobra Barrage and alerted the police. Upon recovery, the body was identified as Professor Singh after confirmation from family members. The police have since initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
