weather news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that night temperatures across Odisha are expected to rise gradually by 2-3°C over the next two days, amid ongoing rainfall activities expected to continue until December 21.
On Wednesday morning, Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 20.2°C at 5:30 AM, a significant increase from 16.2°C at the same time the previous day, marking an almost 4°C rise. The city experienced a minimum temperature of 18.6°C in the last 24 hours, compared to 13.6°C the day before, and a season low of 10.9°C on Sunday, as a persistent cold wave swept across the state for four days. The anticipated rainfall follows this cold spell, attributed to a change in wind patterns with easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture to the region.
The IMD forecasts light rain in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Puri districts on December 18, along with shallow to moderate fog in Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh. Rain intensity is expected to increase slightly over the next three days, with light to moderate rainfall likely in several districts, including Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangpur on December 19, and in coastal Odisha on December 20.
Dry weather is anticipated to prevail across the state thereafter. Meanwhile, a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move northwest towards the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next 24 hours and continue northwards along the Andhra Pradesh coast in the following 24 hours.
