weather news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 21: As a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression, it triggered widespread rainfall across various regions of Odisha, disrupting normal life on Saturday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression, located approximately 440 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 600 km south-southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha, has been moving east-northeastwards. The persistent rain caused significant waterlogging in several areas, including Paradip, leading to considerable disruption.
In the last 24 hours, Khurda recorded the highest rainfall at 75 mm, followed by Jagatsinghpur with 61.2 mm, Paradip at 61.1 mm, Gopalpur with 58.6 mm, Bhubaneswar at 51.6 mm, Puri with 40.5 mm, and Cuttack at 33.4 mm, according to the weather agency’s reports.
The IMD has forecasted heavy rain in parts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts throughout the day. An orange alert was also issued in the morning for several districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, indicating the potential for severe weather conditions.
