Odisha news: Cold wave hits Odisha: 12 places experience night temperatures below 10°C

Odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 2: A cold wave sweeping across Odisha has led to significant drops in nighttime temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting that 12 locations recorded temperatures at or below 10°C in the past 24 hours.

The coldest spot was G. Udaygiri in Kandhamal, which registered a frigid 4.8°C. Following closely were Semiliguda in Koraput at 6.6°C, Rourkela at 7°C, and Jharsuguda at 8°C. Other notable temperatures included Chiplima in Sonepur (8.8°C), Keonjhar (9.5°C), and both Phulbani and Daringbadi (9.5°C each). The mercury also fell to 9.7°C in Sundargarh, 9.8°C in Kirei, and 10°C in both Sonepur and Angul.

Balangir and Bhawanipatna recorded 11°C, while Baripada, Bhadrak, and Dhenkanal saw temperatures of 12°C. Dense fog was reported in Dhenkanal and Angul, with shallow to moderate fog in Bhawanipatna, Koraput, and Gopalpur.

In urban areas, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13.2°C and 13°C, respectively, a notable decrease from 16.4°C and 15.2°C on January 1. Bhubaneswar saw a drop to 14.6°C at 5:30 AM, down from 19.4°C on December 30.

On Wednesday, the IMD had predicted a 2-3°C drop in night temperatures over the next 24 hours, with no significant changes expected in the following four days, according to senior meteorologist Umashankar Das.
