political news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 6: BJD president Naveen Patnaik has strongly criticized the BJP government in Odisha regarding the escalating prices of essential commodities, as his party staged a large-scale protest in Bhubaneswar.

Addressing party leaders and workers at the protest site in Lower PMG, Patnaik, a former Chief Minister, accused the state government of delivering empty rhetoric over the past seven months while failing to take meaningful action to address price hikes. “This government claims to be a people’s government, but it shows no concern for the well-being of ordinary citizens,” he stated.

Patnaik highlighted the rising costs of essential items such as dal, cooking oil, and medicines, asserting that the government has lost control over the market. He alleged that the BJP came to power on false promises made to the electorate during the last elections.

Thousands of BJD workers, led by party leaders, gathered at Lower PMG, holding placards and banners while chanting slogans against the BJP government.

In response, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra dismissed the protest as an exaggeration, claiming that prices for essential commodities like pulses, edible oils, and vegetables in Odisha are lower compared to other states.
