Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 23: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned until 4 pm today following a disruption caused by the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

The uproar stemmed from the BJD’s demand for action against the Governor’s son, who is accused of assaulting an Assistant Section Officer (ASO). The disturbance led to clashes between opposition and ruling party members, forcing Speaker Surama Padhy to initially adjourn the House until 11:30 am.

The issue erupted during the Governor’s speech yesterday when Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati moved to the well of the House, chanting anti-government slogans and questioning the BJP’s commitment to ‘Odiya Asmita’. Both BJD and Congress members staged a walkout shortly after.

Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik criticized the state government, expressing disappointment over the lack of action against the Governor’s son. He stated, “My party and I are deeply shocked that the current government has not taken any action. When I was in government, we ensured immediate action against anyone breaking the law, including ministers and senior officials. The state government should act according to the law,” Patnaik concluded.
