Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 25: The Majhighariani Temple in Rayagada has received a significant donation of approximately one crore rupees from its hundi (donation box).
On Wednesday, after a four-month interval, the hundi of the temple’s presiding deity, Maa Majhighariani, was opened. A total of Rs 99.72 lakh in cash, 53 grams of gold, and 2 kg of silver were recovered.
Additionally, the donation box contained various foreign currencies, including 20 pounds from England, 10 pounds, 20 dollars from the United States, 20 dollars from Canada, and 100 Thai baht.
The counting process began at 9 am under strict police security and continued until 9:30 pm.
Approximately 200 volunteers were involved in the counting, with the local tehsildar, endowment department officials, temple trust board members, and other notable figures present.
The total donation amount has been deposited into the main branch of Union Bank. The interest accrued from this amount will be used for the temple’s development and to enhance facilities for visitors, according to Raisingh Bidika, chairman of the temple management committee.
The hundi was last opened on March 18, revealing donations totaling Rs 89,72,225, 62 grams of gold, and 2.3 kg of silver ornaments, along with 65 foreign currencies.
