Balasore district evacuates over 10,000 people ahead of missile test

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 24: The Balasore district administration in Odisha has temporarily relocated over 10,000 residents from 10 villages in anticipation of a missile test scheduled for Wednesday. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has completed the necessary preparations for the missile test at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.

The test will take place from launch pad number 3 at the ITR. To ensure safety, the district administration has arranged for the temporary evacuation of 10,581 people living within a 3.5 km radius of the launch pad. A senior official noted that these measures include providing adequate compensation to those affected.

On Tuesday, a preparatory meeting was held in Balasore, chaired by Collector Ashis Thakare and Superintendent of Police Sagarika Nath, to facilitate the smooth relocation of residents to nearby temporary shelters.

Residents have been instructed via public address systems to vacate their homes by 4 am on Wednesday and remain in the designated camps until further notice following the missile launch.
