Bharatpur Case: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 14: An Army Major and his fiancée, who have accused the Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar of custodial torture after visiting to file a road rage complaint, appeared before the judicial commission investigating the case on Thursday. The state government had appointed the commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, to probe the allegations made by the Army Major and his fiancée.
Sources revealed that the accused individuals, including suspended Inspector In-Charge (IIC) Dinakrushna Mishra and four other police personnel, did not appear before the commission in person. Instead, their lawyers represented them during the proceedings.
The judicial commission, chaired by Justice Chittaranjan Dash (Retd), had issued summons for all respondents to appear before it. Additionally, lawyers for the youths accused of harassing the Army Major and his fiancée were also present on their behalf.
A total of 16 individuals have been summoned to testify, but the commission will first verify over 500 affidavits submitted in connection with the case before starting the testimony process.
