Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 17: Bharti Airtel’s newly launched AI-powered spam detection system has provided significant relief to its customers in Odisha. In just 20 days, the advanced telecom solution identified 54 million potential spam calls and 2 million spam SMS messages across the state. The service is available automatically to all Airtel mobile users without the need to install an app or request activation.

Balaji Singh, Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Airtel, Odisha, highlighted the growing risks of scams and malicious communications, saying, “As connectivity expands, customers face increasing exposure to digital threats. Our AI-driven solution proactively detects spam, helping create a safer communication environment for our 19.2 million customers in Odisha.”

Developed by Airtel’s in-house data scientists, the system uses a proprietary algorithm that analyzes call and SMS patterns in real time. It classifies suspicious communications based on factors like call frequency, duration, and known spam trends. Every message and call passes through a dual-layer AI shield, processing up to 2.5 billion calls and 1.5 billion messages in just two milliseconds.

The system also scans SMS messages for blacklisted URLs, warning users of malicious links, and detects suspicious activity such as frequent IMEI changes—often a sign of fraud. This comprehensive protection ensures that Airtel customers are shielded from evolving spam and fraud threats.
