Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 24 (BJD): Alleging police inaction in the case of a minor girl’s rape and murder in Nabarangpur, the district unit of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced a 12-hour bandh on September 26. This follows a previous 6-hour bandh in Nabarangpur, where the party demanded the arrest of the accused and the release of the postmortem report, along with a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the victim’s family.

The 10-year-old girl, from Kantagaon panchayat, went out to relieve herself on the evening of September 17 but did not return home, according to sources.

On Monday, Naveen Patnaik, Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly and BJD president, criticized the state government for the deteriorating law and order situation and the increasing incidents of crime against women. While addressing elected representatives from Nabarangpur who had come to Bhubaneswar to discuss the alleged police inaction, Patnaik urged the public to unite for the welfare of the people.

“During my tenure as Chief Minister, our government implemented numerous development projects and ensured the safety and security of Odisha’s citizens. Let’s work together to highlight the struggles of the common people. We will return to power and provide the good governance that we are known for,” he asserted.
