Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 3: The mortal remains of Dr. Bishnu Prasad Chinara, who tragically lost his life in the landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district, are expected to arrive in Odisha on Saturday.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed the media that Dr. Chinara’s body, a resident of Housing Board Colony in Choudwar, will be transported by road. “There is no direct flight from Kochi, and transporting the body by road to Kochi airport for a flight to Bengaluru and then to Bhubaneswar was not feasible. Thus, we decided to bring the body by road, which will take approximately 30 hours. His wife, Priyadarshini Paul, will also arrive today,” he said.
Dr. Chinara’s body was discovered on Wednesday, and his family identified it on Thursday. He was pursuing his postgraduate studies at a private medical college in Bhubaneswar.
Minister Pujari also mentioned that Dr. Swadhin Panda, who was traveling with Dr. Chinara and went missing after the landslides in Kerala’s Chooralmala, has not yet been located. “We are hopeful that rescue teams will find him soon, as many people trapped under the debris have been rescued alive,” he said.
Regarding Swadhin’s wife, Sweekruti Mohapatra, who is from Jharsuguda and is currently receiving treatment, Pujari stated that she is slowly recovering. “She had mud and slush enter her lungs after being trapped in the landslide, and 95% of it has been removed. Doctors believe that coughing and sneezing may help clear the remaining 5%. We are in constant contact with the Kerala government and an Odia SRC official there,” he added.
