Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 31: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced on Wednesday that the body of one of the Odia doctors missing due to the landslides in Wayanad has been found. The body is suspected to be that of Bishnu Prasad Chinara. Following proper identification and formalities, arrangements will be made to transport the body back to Odisha, Pujari said.
The other doctor remains missing, and a team from Odisha is being dispatched to Kerala to assist in the search efforts.
Pujari previously informed the media that the state government is coordinating with its Kerala counterparts to gather information about those missing in Wayanad. “The Special Relief Commissioner is in touch with Kerala’s disaster management authorities, and we have also reached out to Odia officers there. Many people are still trapped under the debris, and the armed forces are continuing relief operations,” he stated.
The Minister noted that a doctor couple and another doctor with his wife, who is a nursing teacher, were on vacation in Wayanad when the landslides occurred. The women are currently receiving treatment, with one having been moved to the general ward after initial care. “We are hopeful they will recover soon,” Pujari added.
The department and district administration have been in contact with the affected families, keeping them updated on the situation. “We stand with the families and remain optimistic that the missing doctors will be found soon,” Pujari said.
Chinara, from Choudwar Housing Board Colony in Cuttack, was vacationing in Wayanad with his wife Priyadarshini Pal, a lecturer in a private nursing college near Cuttack, and another doctor couple, Swadhin Panda and Swikrutee Mohapatra.
