cattle smuggling: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 9: The Odisha government will take strict action against cattle smugglers and those involved in cow slaughter, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokula Nanda Mallik announced on Saturday.
The announcement came on the occasion of Gopashtami, a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved cows.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting cattle, Mallik stated that two Punganur cattle from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh were brought to his home to celebrate Gopashtami. He added that the state government would implement stringent legal measures to prevent cow slaughter and smuggling, ensuring severe penalties for those involved in such activities.
Mallik also mentioned that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had discussed the importance of the Kamdhenu Yojana in Puri, which aims to improve cattle breeding in Odisha.
He further shared that the Chief Minister has formed a committee, led by the Deputy Chief Minister and comprising five ministers and a secretary. This committee will focus on preventing road accidents involving cattle and ensuring their safety.
