crime news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 4: A tragic incident unfolded in the Panikoili area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday when a jewellery shop employee was shot dead, and another individual was critically injured during a robbery attempt. The deceased has been identified as Nila Madhab Panda, while the injured person is receiving treatment at Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

According to sources, Panda was on his way to the Panikoili branch of a bank to deposit cash from the jewellery shop when approximately five assailants on two motorcycles attempted to rob him. The attackers opened fire at a car carrying the victims, leading to chaos in the area.

Local residents acted swiftly, managing to overpower two of the assailants, while at least two others fled the scene. Tension escalated as a large crowd gathered to witness the unfolding situation.

In response, a police team arrived at the location, apprehending the two captured suspects. A search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the remaining attackers. This incident follows closely on the heels of an armed robbery at a gold loan firm in Sambalpur the previous day. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about both incidents.
