Sources indicate that Nayak was on his way to work when he was ambushed by miscreants wielding sharp weapons in Bhualapatra village, which falls under Kolabira police jurisdiction. Following the attack, local residents discovered Nayak lying in a pool of blood and promptly rushed him to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. Unfortunately, medical personnel declared him dead upon arrival.
