cyclone: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 23: As cyclonic storm Dana advances toward the Odisha coast, several regions in the coastal area began experiencing rainfall on Wednesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm is moving northwestward over the Bay of Bengal at a speed of 15 kmph, causing rain to spread across various districts in Odisha.
The intensity of this rainfall is expected to increase as Dana is predicted to make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra on October 24-25.
The IMD has forecasted that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will persist in several districts until October 26, with the heaviest downpours anticipated on October 24 and 25. Specifically, isolated areas in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam could see rainfall amounts ranging from 7 to 11 cm within the next 24 hours.
On October 24, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) with isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall (exceeding 20 cm) is likely in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur. Additionally, similar rainfall patterns are expected in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri.
On October 25, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak, with heavy rainfall also forecasted for Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur, as well as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Khurda, and Puri. The state is bracing for the impact of Cyclone Dana as preparations continue.
