Cyclone Dana forces extended school holidays in six Odisha districts

Cyclone Dana: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 26: As Cyclone Dana continues to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Odisha, the administrations of six districts have announced an extension of holidays for school students.

In light of the inclement weather, schools in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, and Keonjhar will remain closed. In Bhadrak district, Collector Dillip Routray confirmed that schools for Class I to X will not operate today, as detailed in a notification issued on Friday. Similarly, the Jajpur district administration has declared that all schools and Anganwadi centers will remain shut on Saturday due to forecasts of heavy rainfall.

Mayurbhanj has also decided to close all schools until further notice. Reports indicate that Keonjhar and Kendrapada districts are similarly affected by ongoing rainfall, prompting local authorities to keep schools closed. Many schools are currently serving as shelter homes for those evacuated from vulnerable areas, leading District Collectors to announce holidays for students. Additionally, Anganwadi centers in the cyclone-affected districts will also remain closed.
