The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the depression over the East-central Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23. The cyclone is expected to approach the Odisha coast and make landfall between Kendrapada and Bhadrak by October 24-25, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has instructed the Higher Education Department to suspend academic activities during this period to ensure safety. The affected districts include Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Cuttack.

This closure order follows a similar directive from the SRC to the School and Mass Education Department, which announced the closure of schools in these districts from October 23-25 as a precaution against the cyclone’s potential impact.
